The proposed monument site is located on the south side of <a href="http://mallhistory.org/items/show/312">Independence Avenue</a>, directly across from the <a href="http://mallhistory.org/items/show/269">National Air and Space Museum</a>. Like most memorials on the National Mall, architect Frank Gehry's proposed design selected in 2010 has generated controversy on Capitol Hill, within Eisenhower's family, and among public art organizations. In October 2014, the monument gained preliminary approval from the National Capital Planning Commission after design revisions.
