In a series of dots and dashes, later known as Morse code, Morse transmitted the message "What Hath God Wrought" from the Supreme Court Chamber, then located inside the <a href="http://mallhistory.org/items/show/59">Capitol</a>. Before the telegraph, information transmission was limited to the speed of horse travel, but could now be transmitted wide distances almost instantly.
