Lincoln Memorial Commission Report In 1911 Congress appropriated funds and established a subcommittee within the Commission of Fine Arts to write a proposal for a memorial to President Abraham Lincoln. The committee undertook a national <a href="http://mallhistory.org/explorations/show/alternatedesignlincoln">design competition</a> for monument proposals. Their report, seen here, selected a <a href="http://mallhistory.org/items/show/462">design by architect Henry Bacon</a> to create the <a href="http://mallhistory.org/items/show/33">Lincoln Memorial </a>towards the end of the Mall in Potomac Park.
