Description

During the 1800s, the massive red brick Department of Agriculture, designed by Adolf Cluss, housed laboratories, agricultural specimens, seeds, plants, animals, geological artifacts, an extensive library, and a museum. Visitors came to see exhibits on every aspect of agricultural and animal life on the ground floor of the building. The statisticians' office, entomology department, and other research laboratories each had their own section, while on the third floor, workers, usually women, sorted and distributed seed packets.
